Job Overview
Institutional Credit Management (ICM) is a core First Line of Defense function within Citi, responsible for independent credit risk assessment, underwriting, and portfolio oversight across institutional counterparties. ICM partners closely with Front Office, Independent Risk, and Control functions to ensure disciplined risk management, regulatory alignment, and consistent global standards.
Within ICM Counterparty Credit Risk, the Funds Underwriting team provides global coverage of Real Money Funds, including Asset Managers, Investment Advisors, and Pension Funds. The team is responsible for approving and monitoring counterparty credit exposure across some of Citis most significant institutional relationships.
Citi is seeking a Vice President (VP) to serve as a senior Credit Officer within Funds Underwriting. This role owns credit underwriting and portfolio risk oversight for a complex portfolio of Real Money Funds, provides leadership and technical direction to analysts, and acts as a key partner to Front Office and Independent Risk stakeholders.
This is a senior, judgmentdriven VP role, offering significant autonomy, visibility, and impact, while being based in Citis established Getzville risk hub.
Role Overview
The Vice-President will be accountable for endtoend credit risk assessment and ongoing monitoring of Real Money Funds counterparties. The role requires deep technical credit expertise, strong industry judgment, and the ability to influence outcomes across functions and regions.
The position combines portfolio ownership, senior stakeholder interaction, and people leadership through influence, and is suited for professionals looking to continue advancing within Citis global Institutional Credit Management organization.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Underwriting & Risk Ownership
- Lead fundamental credit analysis of Real Money Funds counterparties, integrating quantitative and qualitative factors
- Approve and assign Obligor Risk Ratings and credit recommendations based on independent judgment and industry expertise
- Ensure credit decisions are consistent with Citis risk appetite, policies, and regulatory expectations
Portfolio Oversight & Emerging Risk Management
- Own continuous monitoring of the Funds portfolio, including industry trends, stress events, and counterpartyspecific developments
- Proactively identify and escalate emerging credit risks to senior underwriting leadership, Independent Risk (2LoD), and BCMA partners
- Review and challenge risk ratings and exposure profiles across the Funds sector
Senior Stakeholder Partnership
- Serve as a senior risk partner to Front Office, Independent Risk, and BCMA stakeholders
- Participate in discussions on portfolio strategy, exposure management, and risk governance
- Contribute to consistent implementation of credit standards across regions and products
Leadership & Talent Development
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and oversight to underwriting analysts
- Review and challenge analysts work products to ensure strong underwriting discipline
- Support a strong risk culture, talent development, and engagement initiatives (including VOE)
Governance, Controls & Best Practices
- Ensure adherence to the control environment, including Quality Assurance and Quality Control standards
- Support internal reviews, audits, and regulatory interactions related to counterparty credit risk
- Contribute to ongoing enhancements of underwriting standards and best practices
Experience & Qualifications
- 7-10 years of relevant credit experience in Banking, Counterparty Credit Risk, Institutional Risk Management, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience underwriting and monitoring institutional counterparties
- Strong understanding of wholesale credit processes, portfolio monitoring, and risk governance
- Ability to exercise independent credit judgment and challenge stakeholders constructively
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Experience covering Real Money Funds, Asset Managers, or Pension Funds
- Prior designation as a Credit Officer, or clear capability aligned with VPlevel authority
- Advanced degree (MBA) or professional certification a plus, but not required
