Job Overview

The Wealth Tax Operations VP is a Controller who is responsible for ensuring complete, accurate and timely non-US tax controls and reporting is performed, including exceptions resolution and process improvements in coordination with the Wealth Tax Operations team. The overall objective is to ensure accurate, timely and complete fulfillment of tax controls & reporting obligations imposed on Citi by different Tax Authorities.

This position is instrumental to Private Bank Operations and a trusted partner to Senior Management, Risk & Control, Legal and Compliance Teams in India.

The role ensures consistent execution of endtoend withholding tax processes and supporting the growing volume of APAC and Americas reclaim activity, enabling stronger controls, smoother coordination with stakeholders, and sustained delivery quality as regional requirements continue to expand.

The overall objective of this role includes strengthening Operational Tax processes, Governance and detection of issues, link between Product & Operational Taxation, increase awareness and knowledge on Operational Taxes.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and provide a service for all Client tax operational processes handled in APAC cluster
  • Analyzing tax transaction withholding processes Front to Back and ensure to remediate GAP if any
  • Resolving issues/ Queries in daily process/ production data related to non-US taxes
  • Communicate operational changes arising from remediation or process or control enhancements to other Operation units.
  • Develop Business Requirements for system-related enhancements and End to End management of implementation of new or amended taxes.
  • Driving projects and process improvements in collaboration with project lead, business, Technology and relevant stakeholders.
  • Executing the road map to improve tax operations efficiency, controls, and resilience.
  • Streamlining process inconsistencies, mitigate risks, and process documentation. Sharing knowledge among team to manage tax operations controls functions.
  • Reconciliation of positions and ensuring non-US tax completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
  • Supporting all control functions including MCA, audits, procedures updates and implementation
  • Calculating and monitoring the key KPIs and metrics
  • Timely escalation of issues which impacts the tax processes, ensure root cause analysis, bank/client impact, Tax Authority/client settlement, P&L booking etc. is thoroughly reviewed, sharing regular transparent updates to the stakeholders and monitoring until the end resolution.
  • Representing tax operations in various operations and technology project governance forums.
  • Managing internal & external auditor in relation to non-US tax operations & controls processes
  • Leading team, supporting the organization goals and evaluation processes
  • Recruiting talents 
  • Coordinating task allocation and completion in non-US tax operations team
  • Continue professional development to keep abreast of emerging technologies, methods, and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 12 - 15 years of experience in Operations, preferably in tax space
  • Minimum 6 -8 years of experience in leading team
  • Solid experience in Tax Operations (Indirect Tax, Withholding TAX, Goods and Services Tax, Trading Tax etc.)
  • Proven experience working with demanding business stakeholders within a cross-functional matrix environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and spur change, facilitate, and enhance performance within a cross - functional environment.
  • Proven experience leading a team.
  • Deep understanding of taxes and operational processes
  • Good understanding of Investments Products & Processes.
  • Analytical thinking skills
  • Effective workload management
  • Effective, adjusted to recipient communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and drawing logic conclusions.
  • Adequate level of proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and SharePoint with experience presenting to stakeholders and senior leadership stakeholders.

Education:

  • Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience, preferably in MBA - finance and banking

Specific Skill:

  • Overall experience and acquaintance working in a corporate culture.
  • Oversee implementation of globally consistent and standard tax operational processes, procedures across all client segments under wealth.
  • E2E Understanding of Non-US Taxes (VAT/GST) withholding processes across the organization and have extensive knowledge on the Revenue & VAT GLs.
  • Establish a globally unified and efficient operating model for Wealth Operations and focus on integrating consistent processes, tools, governance models and continue enhancing having close oversight on the existing risk & control culture.
