Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team:

We’re the pride of Ireland. Bord Gáis Energy have been powering the nation’s homes and businesses for almost 40 years. But now, we’re so much more than just gas and electric. Through our unique combination of household heroes and energy assets, we’re at the heart of the energy transition in Ireland, strengthening the country’s energy security and helping customers get ready for a net zero future.

Bord Gáis Energy are setting up a new Energy Management Centre (EMC) in Ireland, and we’re looking for an Operations Team Lead to join this new team! The EMC manages all energy assets in Ireland, the UK, and Europe, including Gas Peaking Power Plants and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). There is also the potential to manage multiple other types of energy asset in the future.

As EMC Operations Team Lead, you’ll be responsible for the effective management of all aspects of the Control Room team, and support our goal of maximizing the availability and efficiency of assets under our control. You’ll directly manage a team of Control Room Operators, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, best practice, and contractual obligations, thus playing a key role in limiting our financial exposure related to unplanned outages.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Drive a strong safety and environmental culture, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor and optimise energy asset performance, managing event notifications and maintaining accurate operational records.
  • Prepare reports on asset availability and performance within SLA targets, supporting onboarding of new assets and process improvements.
  • Configure notifications, document incidents, and lead root cause investigations to promote continuous learning.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop team members while fostering efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Represent the Control Room to stakeholders, manage third-party relationships, and ensure disaster recovery and business continuity plans are in place.
  • Act as incident controller during emergencies.
  • Provide technical on call support to the shift teams.

Here's who we’re looking for:

  • Relevant degree or significant experience in Electrical, Controls, Process, or Systems Engineering.
  • Significant experience of operations and engineering, ideally in an energy company.
  • Knowledge of energy and system service markets; understanding asset interactions is a plus.
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders and leading teams.
  • Skilled in operating energy assets and SCADA control systems.
  • Strong data analysis skills; proficient with OSI PI, Power BI, and Excel.
  • Ability to source, combine, analyse, and present large datasets.
  • Familiarity with incident management, root cause investigations, and action tracking is advantageous.
  • Solid technical understanding of equipment and processes.

Why should you apply?

We’re not a perfect place – but we’re a people place. Our priority is supporting all of the different realities our people face. Life is about so much more than work. We get it. That’s why we’ve designed our total rewards to give you the flexibility to choose what you need, when you need it, making sure that you and your family are supported not only financially, but physically and emotionally too. Visit the link below to discover why we’re a great place to work and what being part of more means for you.
