Full Job Description
About the Job:
We are seeking an experienced, handson Microsoft Fabric Engineer to play a key role in the delivery and evolution of our data platform. This role is centred on endtoend Fabric ETL in production, with a strong focus on realworld decisionmaking across Fabric components and the migration of existing Qlik analytics into Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
You will work closely with data analysts, developers, and stakeholders to modernise data pipelines, optimise transformations, and enable teams through coaching, best practice, and clear documentation. This is a practical engineering role requiring strong technical capability, not just design or advisory experience.
Hybrid working:
The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.
Your Role:
As a Fabric Engineer, you will:
- Lead the design and build of Fabric ETL pipelines across storage, ingestion, transformation, and orchestration, aligned to team needs and best practice.
- Select and justify Microsoft Fabric components, making informed tradeoff decisions between Lakehouse vs Warehouse, and Pipelines, Dataflows, Mirroring, and Shortcuts based on realworld constraints.
- Migrate and optimise Qlik load scripts by rewriting them into efficient Fabric SQL/TSQL for execution in Lakehouse and/or Warehouse.
- Set up and run Fabric Pipelines for ETL/ELT, including scheduling, orchestration, alerting, and monitoring suitable for production environments.
- Partner closely with analysts and developers to migrate endtoend Qlik reports into Fabric datasets and Power BI reports.
- Coach and upskill technical teams, providing handson guidance, Fabric and Power BI advice, and practical support.
- Document architectures, decisions, processes, and runbooks to support ongoing delivery and platform sustainability.
Your Skills:
- Proven endtoend Microsoft Fabric delivery in production, covering storage, ingestion, and ETL.
- Strong, practical Fabric decisionmaking experience, including:
- Lakehouse vs Warehouse
- Pipelines vs Dataflows
- Use of Mirroring and Shortcuts where appropriate
- Handson experience building and operating Fabric Pipelines for ETL/ELT, with productiongrade scheduling, alerting, and monitoring.
- Strong SQL and TSQL skills, including performance optimisation and transformation logic.
- Demonstrated experience rewriting Qlik load scripts into Fabric SQL/TSQL, simplifying and optimising logic for Fabric execution.
- Comfortable building and supporting Power BI reports on top of Fabric datasets.
- Strong enablement mindset, with experience coaching analysts and developers and producing clear technical documentation.
