Job Description:

At bp, we are looking for a commercially minded and highly analytical Lights & Specialties Supply Coordinator to help drive supply performance, optimise commercial value, and strengthen supply security across our South African business.

This role plays a key part in managing supply relationships with oil majors, importers, and other market counterparties, while ensuring the most economic supply decisions are made across term and spot activity. You will help balance profitability, market demand, operational realities, and supply continuity all while working closely with trading, operations, schedulers, and key business partners.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-moving commercial environment where negotiation, analysis, relationship management, and decision-making all come together.

What you will do

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and develop a portfolio of commercial supply relationships with oil majors, oil importers, and other market participants
  • Negotiate and execute term and spot product sales and purchases across the South African market
  • Help ensure product supply meets business demand at the lowest cost to serve, while maximising asset profitability
  • Identify and evaluate the most economic supply options for product purchases, exchanges, throughput, and sales
  • Take ownership of end-to-end term product supply contract management
  • Support supply planning and optimisation activity over the mid-term horizon, helping align strategy with operational delivery
  • Use supply and operational data to improve decision-making, support performance reporting, and reduce value leakage
  • Work closely with trading, refining, pricing, operations, and scheduling teams to translate commercial decisions into operational execution
  • Maintain strong alignment with HSSE standards and bp trading compliance requirements
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the value chain
  • Contribute commercial insight, market intelligence, and negotiation expertise to support business performance and growth

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone who combines commercial thinking, strong numeracy, market awareness, and relationship-building skills.

You may be a strong fit if you have:

  • A Bachelors degree in Economics, Business, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in supply management, operations, trading support, refining, pricing, or commercial optimisation
  • A strong understanding of supply economics, commercial drivers, and product flows
  • Confidence working with data, interpreting market dynamics, and making sound decisions in complex situations
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • The ability to work effectively across multiple teams and priorities in a dynamic environment
  • A track record of building credible relationships internally and externally
  • A proactive mindset, with the confidence to challenge traditional thinking and explore better ways of working

What will make you stand out

It would be an advantage if you bring:

  • Exposure to Trading & Shipping, Refining, Pricing, or Supply Operations
  • Experience managing commercial contracts or supplier/customer negotiations
  • An understanding of how to balance margin, working capital, and supply security
  • The ability to influence without direct authority and lead in an informal way

Why join bp

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work across commercial, operational, and market-facing teams while contributing directly to supply performance and value creation in a critical part of the business.

You will join a collaborative environment where your ideas, judgement, and commercial mindset can make a real impact.
