Were seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Vice President to join our Payments Enablement Platform Operations team. This role is located in Tokyo, Japan.
This role is responsible for leading transaction banking operations with a focus on domestic and global payment processing, operational excellence, risk and control oversight, and effective collaboration across local, regional, global, and offshore teams.
The successful candidate will bring strong experience across transaction banking operations and related leadership responsibilities, together with sound knowledge of Japanese and global clearing systems. In addition to overseeing day-to-day payment operations, this position is expected to represent the Tokyo branch as a senior leader, contribute to leadership forums, respond to regulatory and audit requirements, and play a leadership role in regional and global programs and projects.
This role requires minimum four days a week attendance in the office owing to processing with a standalone terminal located in the office.
In this role, youll make an impact in the following ways:
- Lead day-to-day payments operations activities in support of transaction banking services in the Tokyo office
- Oversee processing and operational control activities across local and cross-border payment flows.
- Apply strong knowledge of local and global clearing systems to ensure accurate, timely, and well-controlled operations.
- Coordinate closely with local Tokyo team members, offshore partners, and relevant regional/global stakeholders to maintain smooth operational delivery.
- Drive issue identification, escalation, and resolution related to payment operations, ensuring timely remediation and clear stakeholder communication.
- Lead process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives across the payments operating model.
- Support and lead ongoing changes related to market infrastructure, messaging standards, regulatory requirements, and operational processes.
- Demonstrate and promote the use of AI-enabled tools and new technologies to improve productivity, operational effectiveness, and process resilience.
- Maintain high standards of risk awareness, control, compliance, and governance across all operational activities.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders in both Japanese and English.
- Participate in and contribute to the Leadership Forum as a senior employee of the Tokyo branch.
- Act as a senior representative in responding to onsite and offsite inspections by Japanese regulatory authorities, including but not limited to the Financial Services Agency, Ministry of Finance, Bank of Japan, and National Tax Agency.
- Lead and coordinate responses to Internal Audit reviews and external audit firm audits, including preparation, stakeholder coordination, issue management, and remediation follow-through.
- Provide leadership in regional and global programs and projects, ensuring Tokyo operational requirements and regulatory considerations are appropriately represented.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex operational, control, and stakeholder matters related to payments.
- Support the development of a strong control environment and foster a culture of accountability, operational discipline, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Contribute to strategic planning, organizational readiness, and change execution affecting Payments operations in Tokyo.
To be successful in this role, were seeking the following:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience required; advanced degree or professional qualification is a plus
- Relevant experience in relationship management, platform solutions, business development, or client coverage within financial markets, financing, liquidity, treasury, securities finance, or related businesses.
- Demonstrated understanding of institutional client needs in Japan, including knowledge of local market practice, market structure, and the regulatory environment applicable to financial institutions and market participants.
- Proven ability to build credibility with senior client stakeholders and to manage complex, cross-functional internal coordination in support of commercial objectives
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively across local, regional, and global teams.
- Fluency in Japanese and strong English communication skills preferred to support domestic client coverage and regional collaboration.
- High degree of professionalism, accountability, sound judgment, and attention to detail in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
