Full Job Description
Were seeking a future team member for the role of Director to join our Credit Risk Review team, with a balanced focus on Corporates and some segments of Financial Institutions such as funds and investment managers, insurance, and financial market utilities. This role is located in New York City.
In this role, youll make an impact in the following ways:
- Deliver CRRs mandate. As an independent assurance function within our 2ndLine of Defense, Credit Risk Review (CRR) provides assessment and assurance on the quality of BNYs credit exposures, quality of credit evaluation and approval, accuracy of credit ratings, and the adequacy of and degree of adherence to BNYs credit risk policies, standards, procedures and risk appetite.
- Own and exercise CRRs authority. CRR holds override authority on Credit decisions including risk ratings, and the authority to raise issues and track their remediation to completion. CRR also provides assurance to external examiners and regulatory authorities whether our credit assessment process complies with regulatory guidelines.
- Design and own credit assessment methodologies, lead and participate in comprehensive credit risk reviews of various lending and derivative portfolios to provide an independent assessment of the Banks quality of credit exposures and the degree of adherence to risk policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Direct and manage relationships with senior management stakeholders across all lines of defense, represent CRR, own and effectively deliver conclusions of CRR reviews with clarity and confidence.
- Perform detailed independent credit analysis which includes financial statement analysis, ratio analysis and cash flow analysis on the borrowers within the lending and / or derivatives portfolio under review.
- Ensure that individual credits are appropriately underwritten, properly risk rated and adhere to the Companys risk policy.
- Ensure an appropriate assessment of credit risk through early identification of issues, problems and exceptions regarding credit, as well as industry and geographic risk assessments to support early detection of credit and/or portfolio deterioration.
- Lead or participate in opening meetings, closing meetings and communicate any issues to the Head of Credit Risk Review, senior management and the credit risk team of the lending and/or derivatives portfolio under review.
- Keep current with federal and state regulations/guidelines pertaining to the lending function that may impact the Companys lending and/or derivatives portfolio.
- Lead specific areas of CRR continuous monitoring, responses to regulatory requests and other independent third-party requests, any other projects assigned by CRR management.
- Demonstrate leadership through project management and execution, strong technical credit skills, analytical sharpness and intellectual curiosity. Contribute to CRR strategy design and continuous improvement efforts. Train and coach less experienced colleagues. As appropriate, advise teams across all lines of defense.
To be successful in this role, were seeking the following:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or other related field; masters degree (e.g. MBA, Master of Finance), CPA, CFA or related certifications preferred.
- 10-15 years relevant experience in credit risk, credit risk review or a relevant specialty. Credit officer experience and track-record of holding material individual credit authority is preferred. Experience in a major financial institution is preferred, primarily in the US, but international experience may also add value.
- Additional core skill requirements include in-depth credit analysis and knowledge of various lending and derivatives portfolios. Thorough knowledge of various lending and derivative products. Understanding of Credit Risk reporting fundamentals, including impact on CECL, RWAs, capital.
- Specific areas of technical expertise preferred are: (1) corporates across sectors; (2) financial institutions, including funds, investment managers, hedge funds, insurance, financial market utilities, (3) counterparty credit risk.
- Confidence, strong negotiation, oral and written communication skills. Pragmatic and commercial approach.
- Ability to operate at senior level, work collaboratively and productively with various internal and external stakeholders.
