Join us at Barclays in a hybrid securities lending trader and AI and quant specialist role within Equity Finance. You will work on the securities lending trading desk responsible borrowing and lending securities alongside pushing automation initiatives and process enhancement within a live trading environment. Its a front office role within the Equity Financing business and is well suited to someone with strong analytical skills, a proactive Quantitativemindset, and a genuine interest in trading, analysing data and automating workflows through technology. There will be a particular focus on the practical implementation of AI along with the trading responsibilities.

In your role, you will be responsible for securities lending trading a in fastpaced markets environment, designing, enhancing, and maintaining tradecapture and posttrade automation solutions while using SQL, Python, and VBA to analyse data. You will apply an understanding of AI tools, including Claude, to drive productivity, analytical efficiency, and automation opportunities. You will partner closely with other trading desks, operations, technology and other stakeholders to deliver best in class service to our clients and help to streamline workflows and reduce manual touchpoints. Contribution will also be made to ongoing processimprovement initiatives with a strong focus on P&L, efficiency, scalability, control, and operational robustness.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading Front Office Markets business with a focus on automation and technology whilst developing technical and commercial skillsets within Equity Finance and Prime Brokerage.

To be successful in the hybrid Securities Lending and AI and quant role :

  • Relevant academic background in a STEM/Quantitative field
  • Some professional experience within a buyside or sellside financial institution (Prime Brokerage, Equity Finance, Equities, or Financial Markets highly beneficial)
  • Practical understanding of Claude or comparable AI tools, and how they can be applied in a professional environment
  • SQL, Python and VBA skills
  • Ample attention to detail with the ability to work accurately under pressure

This role is deemed as a Certified role under the PRA & UK Financial Conduct Authority - Individual Accountabilities Regulations and may require the role holder to hold mandatory regulatory qualifications or the minimum qualifications to meet internal company benchmarks.

Purpose of the role

To execute trades and manage risk within a defined portfolio of financial instruments and staying informed about market trends and developments to make informed trading decisions. 

Accountabilities

  • Execution of buy and sell orders or pricing of liquidity in various financial instruments while adhering to the bank's trading strategies and risk parameters.
  • Monitoring and analysis of global financial markets, economic indicators, news, and geopolitical events to identify trading opportunities and assess market risks.
  • Management and monitoring of the risk associated with the trading portfolio and ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal risk management guidelines.
  • Collaboration with research analysts and other teams to gather insights and information for trading decisions.
