Join us as an Android Developer at Barclays, responsible for supporting the successful delivery of location strategy projects to plan, budget, agreed quality and governance standards. You'll spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. You will harness cutting-edge technology to revolutionise our digital offerings, ensuring unparalleled customer experiences.

To be successful as an Android Developer, you should have experience with:  

Essential Skills:

  • Strong overall IT / software development experience In Android
  • Strong handson experience in Android development using Kotlin and Java.
  • Handson experience building backend services using Java Spring Boot.
  • Experience owning features end to end across mobile and backend layers.
  • Experience working in USCB Payments / Cards or similar transactional platforms (preferred).
  • Proven experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Handson development experience with Java Spring Boot, including microservices and API design.
  • Strong understanding of Android architecture patterns (MVVM/MVP), Jetpack components, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience producing and consuming OpenAPI / Swagger specifications.
  • Solid foundation in objectoriented design, clean code, and SOLID principles.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in banking, payments, cards, or financial services platforms.
  • Exposure to transaction processing, payment flows, or card lifecycle events.
  • Experience with Android modernisation (e.g., Jetpack Compose).
  • Familiarity with cloudnative or containerized backend deployments.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organizations technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
