Full Job Description

Insurance Disputes Lawyer - Managing Associate (6+PQE), London

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

  • We are seeking to recruit a Managing Associate into our Commercial Disputes team, with a focus on insurance policyholder disputes, based in London. You will bring significant experience in complex commercial litigation, with a strong grounding in insurance coverage disputes.
  • You will play a senior role within a market-leading disputes practice, working closely with partners and senior lawyers to lead matters, build client relationships, and contribute to the strategic growth of our insurance policyholder offering.
  • This is an opportunity to take on a pivotal role in a growing practice, supporting the development of junior lawyers while helping to shape the direction of the team and strengthen its market position.

THE TEAM

The insurance disputes team sits within our global Disputes group of over 300 lawyers, enabling the seamless handling of complex, multi-jurisdictional matters. As part of a full-service disputes offering covering commercial litigation, arbitration, fraud, and finance disputes, we are well positioned to deliver integrated solutions and are widely recognised as a leading practice with a strong reputation in high-value, international insurance disputes.

The team acts for policyholders rather than insurers, representing major corporates including FTSE 350 and Fortune 500 companies.

Working closely with Partners Richard Wise and Victoria Pool, you will primarily provide support to a Legal Director and senior members of the team. The insurance practice represent major national and multinational policyholders across sectors including financial and professional services, retail and consumer, real estate, construction, and pharmaceuticals and healthcare.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE

As a Managing Associate, you will take a leading role in delivering complex disputes while contributing to the broader strategic and commercial success of the practice.

  • Lead and manage high-value, complex commercial and insurance coverage disputes, often involving multiple jurisdictions, forums, and stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to major corporate clients, providing strategic input on both contentious and non-contentious insurance matters.
  • Work closely with partners and senior leaders to strengthen client relationships and identify new business opportunities.
  • Play a key role in supervising, mentoring, and developing junior lawyers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
  • Contribute to the continued growth of the insurance policyholder practice through thought leadership, profile-raising, and active participation in client and market initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across other practice areas and sectors to deliver integrated, client-focused solutions.
  • Support innovation within the team, including the effective use of legal technology and AI to enhance service delivery.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous development, contributing to training, coaching, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

ABOUT YOU

  • Qualified lawyer at Senior Associate level with a minimum of 6 years' PQE.
  • Significant experience in commercial litigation, with a strong emphasis on insurance disputes.
  • Proven ability to lead complex matters and manage client relationships at a senior level.
  • Strong commercial awareness and a proactive approach to business development.
  • Experience supervising and developing junior lawyers.
  • A collaborative, strategic, and solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performing environment.
