Full Job Description

Platform Engineer

ABOUT THE COMPANY:
Maven is a market-leading proprietary trading firm that allocates internal capital across discretionary, systematic, and market-making strategies. Our collective expertise spans traders, engineers, and technologists, unified by an unwavering dedication to enhancing our efficiency as a premier liquidity provider for globally listed derivatives. We leverage groundbreaking execution and pricing technologies to elevate and improve financial markets' operations.

OVERVIEW

As a global firm with trading strategies that operate worldwide, we want to create and maintain a globally consistent platform, removing as much work as possible from our trading and development teams when building, developing and running their applications. We are looking for an experienced technical operations specialist, DevOps engineer, or Platform Engineer to join a small existing team and help shape this vision.
The individual will have operational responsibility for several production trading and research environments and will need to understand how our systems work throughout the trading lifecycle, from the front to the back office.
The role will require close collaboration with traders, developers, quant researchers, data engineers, and infrastructure teams to ensure our production systems are well-understood and properly configured.
The individual will also be expected to advocate for operational efficiency and continuous improvement across all deployment aspects, as well as troubleshooting, monitoring, automation, and resiliency.

We are just at the beginning of an exciting transformation project to consolidate and standardise how we run and research our applications inside Maven, and the individual will have the opportunity to shape the future of this platform.

The role is based in London, but the team will be globally distributed. Communication skills, a pragmatic approach to problem-solving under time pressure, and a positive mindset are essential for success in this role. Candidates will likely have at least 2+ years of experience in a similar position.

  • A highly motivated individual with creative problem-solving skills;
  • A self-starter attitude and proactive problem ownership mindset;
  • Ability to prioritise effectively whilst keeping longer-term objectives in mind;

MUST HAVE

  • Building systems with a constant focus on reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Designing and programming in a variety of languages and technologies.
  • Working on legacy code as well as green field development.
  • Initiative driving projects to completion.
  • Learning and promoting new technologies with a focus on best practices.
  • Experience building and automating various operations tasks using scripting languages such as Python, including configuration checks, system health monitoring, alerting, reliability report generation, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to steep learning curves and navigate large volumes of information.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Multiple years of server-side development.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, Kafka, Prometheus, and other modern deployment tooling
  • Experience working closely with both traders and automated strategies in a similar front-office environment to identify and implement operational improvements
  • Knowledge of standard IT and software engineering tooling such as git, jira, TeamCity, confluence, ansible, etc.
  • Familiarity with SQL, HTTP messaging, and network protocols
  • Experience managing operational risk in a trading environment

WHY SHOULD YOU APPLY?

  • An excellent engineering environment where technology is key to our success
  • Flexible work-from-home options 1 day a week
  • Highly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus
  • Working with a team of high-performing individuals, we all push each other forward
  • Informal dress code and excellent work/life balance
  • A fast-growing global firm with plenty of opportunities where you will have a significant impact
