Full Job Description

About the Position

We are looking for enthusiastic teaching assistants with knowledge of algorithms and computer programming for our Academy of Math and Programming (AMP) in New York City.

This is a temporary, six-week-long summer role, which includes one week of training. Dates of the program are still being determined, but it will likely take place from late June through early August.

AMP is a program for recent high school graduates of diverse backgrounds who have experienced barriers to access and opportunity within advanced STEM education. It offers students a rigorous and rewarding curriculum that focuses on topics near and dear to Jane Street, including mathematics, computer programming, and game theory.

You’ll work alongside an excellent group of instructors and teaching assistants to administer challenging and interactive courses and activities—including classes, problem-solving sessions, and game-playing—and supervise students as they spend their summer learning.

This will include:

  • Helping to deliver the computer science curriculum, and aiding instructional and supervisory work
  • Teaching, guiding, and playing strategy games (card games, board games, etc.) with students
  • Residing with the students in the dorms for the duration of the program
  • Leading academic and social activities during evenings and select weekends

Jane Street deeply values the quality of our educational programming, and we compensate our high-caliber instructors accordingly. Travel, housing, and meals will be provided.

About You

  • An undergraduate or graduate student
  • Experienced with, or interested in, working with students or in an academic environment (e.g., summer camps, part-time jobs, tutoring, mentoring—however, this list is not exhaustive and we encourage you to apply even if you do not have direct experience)
  • Strong STEM-content knowledge, especially within the area of computer science
  • Enjoyment of strategy, logic, and mathematical game-playing is preferred
